Dubai International Airport announced that passenger traffic report
stating airports managed by Dubai International Airport (DXB) has taken
over the crown of London's Heathrow Airport as the busiest airport
serving passengers and most in the world.
As quoted by Arabian Business, during 2014, Dubai Airport has served a total of 70,475,636 passengers, up 6.1 percent from 66,431,533 in 2013.
While passenger traffic in December 2014 grew 7.5 percent, reaching 6,498,573 passengers.
"The achievement of this historic is the culmination of the hard work for more than five decades," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, head of Dubai Airport.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed said the main purpose of this achievement is to make Dubai as a global aviation hub.
"And we've approached these goals thanks to policies that support the aviation business, such as a friendly business environment, increasing Dubai as the magnetic center of trade, tourism, growth of the transportation network that is supported by the expansion of Emirates and Etihad Airways and timely infrakstuktur investment growth," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed.
Aircraft movements month December 2014 rose 4 percent to 34 136. while aircraft movements during the year 2014 reached 357 339, down 3.4 percent from 369 953 in 2013. The decrease was due to the improvement and development of the airport during the summer of 2014.
Increased air traffic big push up the number of passengers per flight of 5.1 percent to 208.3 passengers during 2014.
Most passengers during 2014 came from Western European countries followed in the Indian subcontinent, Asia and North America. As for the volume of goods, Dubai Airport served a total of 2,367,574 tons in 2014, while serving 2,443,624 tons the previous year, or a decline of 3.4 percent due to the shifting of the cargo operators to Dubai World Central last year.
"We also have issued traffic projections Dubai International Airport for 2015 are expected to serve 79 million passengers. We also see more and more flights to various destinations," he said.
"Today we are more focused on technology procurement, provision of food and drink with a new concept and other new services that will enrich the experience of flying passengers," added Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed.
